As many Malaysians are fully aware of, it was announced early yesterday that the English medium of learning for school subjects Math and Science, shall be reverted back to Malay beginning year 2012.
I think this is a "dumb move"!
As if this "EMPHASIS" would help?!Let's take a breather and evaluate the situation properly.
from the 90's to the millennium
English -> Malay -> English -> to malay again??!
Now why are they so fickle minded?
The older generation of today are English speaking, the one after are Malay speaking and the current generation are English educated but government wants to make it Malay again?
Basically, we're going to have a bigger bowl/plate of ROJAK!

Pros of Bahasa
Pros of English
- Students will be more fluent with the Malay language
- Communication in Malaysia and maybe Indonesia will be better
- Students will be able to understand other Malay subjects better
- Malay educated teachers shall benefit and are able to teach better
- The people complaining for a change will be contented
Pros of English
- Students will be more fluent with the English language
- Communication around the world will be better
- Students will be more versed(less difficulty to understand) when entering college and university
- Teachers taught to teach in English for several years now will not have wasted their efforts
- The future of students are more secured than with Malay education
*the cons are vice-versa and other cons are not mentioned for valid reasons.
Personally, I was caught in the crossfire of the change in medium during high-school. Thank goodness to my teachers then who were able to teach in English at my school Sri Cempaka Damansara. But I did do the paper (SPM) bilingually (meaning in Malay and English). Hence, this issue is rather dear to me as I understand the difficulty for both teachers and students.
Therefore, to the people that oppose the current medium for subjects 'English', I urge you to please reconsider for the children's future. Also, children, don't let this affect you. Fight for your rights and your life. Let Malaysia reach its potential with English as a base language. =)
