What is your goal?

Life is all about random occurrences that coincide leaving incidences and circumstantial situations that many would call fate or destiny.

Whichever you choose to believe in -
what is your goal?

Many of us go through life either taking the backseat or charging forward. Doing so, we end up with different experiences and different expectations. Things that aren't in control are where we're born, who are our family, what country do you reside in initially, what faith are you brought up to believe in? Have you ever thought about that?

Aside from those, we literally decide our outcome in life. You want to be a millionaire - you take the risk and push yourself till you achieve it. You want a laid back life doing a 9-5 job and withdrawing enough for rent and food for the family, you just do that simple job that supplies you enough.

I remember when I was younger and many of the essays or talks as a primary school student revolved around "my ambition". Back then when the mind was raw and unaware of real-life bribery, cheating, discrimination, racism - how simple life is. Though you did not have a luxury house or car neither a nokia 3310, the only thing you had to think of was handing in your homework to avoid scolding from that math teacher.

As I grew older things changed. I developed skills, developed awareness of the situation and surrounding. Dreams were still beyond our galaxy, a voyage to the unknown.

In a gist, I wanted to be a

1. professional pool player,

2. scientist,

3. astronaut,

4. formula 1 racer,

5. musician,

6. youtuber,

7. surgeon,

8. mechatronic engineer

- but look where I am today?
- A doctor that is keen to specialize in Dermatology. It's a really long way.. but for now that's my journey.

One may say what we choose to become is the sum of all our experiences and advice that we have recollected throughout the many years before jumping into college or university or for some straight into work. Yes, opportunity is an important thing. I know of many who wanted to be doctors but due to lack of monetary funds or scholarships, they're doing something totally non-health related. I also know of people who wanted to be a big time business owner, but struggling to make ends meat.

So today I ask you, what is your goal? I made my goal simple yet difficult since I was young.
~ Even if I end up looking like a fool, so long as somebody sees me and has a better day or even a laugh - it was worth the effort.
In essence, to make an impact on this Earth;
not a small one if I may say so ~

Have I achieved it? Probably in baby steps. What about you? Are you simply going through life living it for yourself? What is your goal?

5 years, Officially a Doctor! MBBS

As the title goes, this morning I woke up as Benedict Sachdev the medical student from IMU.
I will be sleeping tonight as Dr Benedict Sachdev MBBS (IMU).

It has been a long journey of 5 years.

Began on the 28/2/08
2 and a half years pre-clinical phase1 at Bukit Jalil IMU campus
2 years clinical phase 2 at IMU Seremban Campus and half a year at IMU Batu Pahat Campus
Ended on the 28/2/13

The past years have been full of wonderful memories from the
mind blowing orientation of ragging and bullying,
enjoying the daily 2 hour lectures as a holiday,
memorizing FLM's at the library,
practicing clinical skills at the clinical skills unit,
representing the batch, house team and IMU in sports,
attending life changing talks,
having tea in the library and hanging out at the student pool lounge,
rushing assignments like a mad person,
waking up as early as 5 am to get to the hospital,
preparing presentations one after another,
enjoying my life staying next to the beach,
watching movies at the cinema on a near weekly basis,
playing games, youtubing and making videos,
talking with people of superior intellect and ... ,
embracing the government health care system with my now fellow colleagues,
sharing memories and tears with patients,
witnessing life and it's middle and end,
travelling back and forth as the only crazy person from Port dickson to Seremban on a daily basis,
running home on weekends to spend time with family and friends,
studying last minute and passing by God's grace,
staying for the first time in my life with a housemate,
food hunting and tasting with buddies,
hanging out at the shopping mall,
football gang/futsol gang,
sitting exams one after another,
and lastly - enjoying this experience of learning with wonderful friends, lecturers, staff, and most importantly family & God.

Truly I tell you, this course at IMU (international medical university) has been life changing, maturity growing, knowledge overwhelming, fun and leisure filled, and lastly one of a kind!

Thank you my dear family, friends, colleagues, teachers, lecturers, university, hospital and clinic staff, and everyone else who have played even a minor role in my journey at IMU. Most importantly thank you God who without I would not have become Doctor Benedict Sachdev!

Congratulations MeDt108 / C2/10! Press on and be a good impact to society. Always remember, you can do it! FAR OUT!

for those wondering, i got a family medicine case for my exam with ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, fatty liver and alcoholism. I was asked about both my obs&gynae as well as orthopaedics portfolio.

Why parents send their children to school?

I grew up in Malaysia. I like every other Malaysian while growing up wanted to leave Malaysia. But when i grew that little bit older, got a little bit smarter, a little bit wiser

I chose to serve Malaysia for this is where i call home.

The following video is a short clip of where i spend the majority of my life learning about life. As it's mentioned, it ain't just about making grades such as 11A1's or 7 A's in SPM and PMR respectively, or that 4.0 cGpa.

It's a wholistic learning environment where we train both sides of our brain and the higher centers of judgement, innovation and possibly creation.

Enjoy!

Shout out to - Mr Sheat, Pn Nora, Cik Zakiah, and all my other educators!

Like a Mangkuk!

This is one of my wise quotes! Haha. Think about it. Ponder and embrace the connotations :)

I have a feeling this week will be a memorable and interesting one. Hope yours will be too!

Until then, the finals of EURO 2012 is coming up in an roughly two hours. Spain versus Italy! Who's your pick?

My gut says Spain will take it home, but my for the sake of excitement i am hoping for Italy to win simply because they are the underdogs! We'll see what surprises may unfold! Penalties!!!

the best ones are near the end of the video!

Malaysia PUN BOLEH!

Malaysian media always emphasize on how efficient overseas cops are. It's always fun to watch how those big white blokes manhandle criminals.

When it comes to action, high speed chases are what defines dangerous and probably to many, MASSIVE BALLS!

For those of you in Malaysia who think your car can run from the little waja the police drive,

think again when they bring out their tycoon the EVO 10.

Remember, driving is a privilege and not a right. And no matter how fast you drive, stay safe as you're not the only one on the road!

Difficulty? Hmph!

Why do we choose to make life difficult for ourselves?

Look at the picture above, it really is an easy choice isn't it? - well, depending if you are a girl or guy and what sexual preferences you have.

But seriously! Majority of people always complain about how stressed up with work or studies or social life or God knows what.

Why?

Why??

Why???

It doesn't make sense to me.

Is it because of procrastination?

.. because of others?

.. because of supernatural forces?!

Well, I'm not really sure: depending on the circumstance at least. I mean if so happened I was being chased by a dog and superman came to save me, then I turned up on the news and reporters start to harass me relentlessly followed by the CIA accusing me of being an accomplice to some terrorist bombing... bla bla bla. You get the drift.

At the end of the day, we can make all sorts of excuse in the world or universe; but deep down we know the real reason life becomes difficult for ourselves.

The reason is because of the choices we make that lead to an inevitable position that does not cater to the required purpose of an event.

In laymen's language, it's because of our own doing.

So this week, make the "right" choices not the ones we "like".

Skate exam

2:20am Skateboarding similar concept to snowboarding as well as surfing, require the basic - plank board. Only difference is it has 4 wheels attached to 2 axels.

I'm still up and procrastinating away my 3 untouched books for my ent, opthalmology, a&e, dermatology postings exam this coming Friday. Funny how i am so good at pushing the stress away and also the very basic skill of opening and reading a book.

Well, in the midst of my crazy choice in med school study habits -

- i found this video that relates the title "Skate exam".

I used to skateboard rather often when i was younger, and am very thankful the following video never came true in my case. This is seriously GG.

Top 10 Worst Skateboarding Wipeouts in History

Some are so crazy it tingles my spine! That little i need in the wee hours of the night to motivate my brain to study!

Study and be a doctor or become a skateboarder and be seen by a doctor. I think the first sounds better :)

Do pray for my exam yeah! I need to pass all of it and do well! Amen!

Tired and exhausted, but .. God

3:22am For the first time in my life, i can finally say i am exhausted and have been astray from things for sometime now. I'm the type who never fears and have things in control (most of the time at least). I usually know my capabilities and am in full confidence to what needs to be done.

I'm taking this next shut-eye as the end of my worries and the many thoughts that travel my mind in a round-about that experiences the weekday 5pm jam. By the morning i arise, i will be back to my earlier self again. Cheery, smiling, shows no lack of confidence and places matters into my own hands with full grasp.

I am inspired by God that is. I haven't had a good dose of Him in a fair amount of time. Mostly because i always feel tired. The battles faced ,may seem minute to some, but little does one know about myself. Same goes to others. You can really never judge a book by its cover.

Just went on my rss feed and listened to today's "our daily bread" topic which speaks about

"The Great Comeback http://tinyurl.com/3zdw6rr "

I used to listen to their sharing daily before i retire, and since weeks to more than a month i believe, i had ignored it completely. Essentially, this spoke to me about how even when you think you've done it all, and God has left you, little do you know that when you believe and trust Him, you can do anything!

May it be your financial status, marriage, work relations, family, sickness or even more relative to myself in the current state - studies. He can pull you through and even more make you fly sky high till you're untouchable if only you let Him.

From my own experiences, that has happened. I am in my 4thyear of med school and to get thus far, it is by His works. Let me share a little.

From my high school days, it was a miracle for me to score high distinctions and enter college just missing two more subjects from a perfect 12/12 A's. Why so? This because i did all my exams except two in the hospital due to severe vomiting and diarrhea ( i believe medically, acutie viral gastroenteritis ). I literally could not even stand up when i went for my exams. Not to mention, up till the minuted before each paper, i had still many (even till more than a quarter of the syllabus) untouched chapters for subjects such as chemistry, biology, physics, additional mathematics, bahasa malaysia, history and etc.

And he pulled me through.

My college results were nowhere near the required entree to med school at melbourne university which was one of the two universities i applied to. From trinity college foundation studies i was required to achieve a 98% raw score. At the end of it, i wasn't accepted for either uni's because there were limited seats available for those who did my course and applied for medicine.

I only gained entry into imu (international medical university) 2 weeks prior to the course starting based on an interview and being informed i got a place the following day. Praise the Lord because i applied for this university and one other of which i was months late after the applications had closed. Best part is, i got into both!

Now if i were to share more, this post would become a thesis for my post-grad. But let me end here from my long-winded writings and say through Christ, you can overcome anything; through Christ, from when i awake later, i will overcome it all! AMEN!

In life we just need that little re-lighting of our candles which had blown out by the passing wind (distractions and dissatisfactions). With God, Jesus, he can be like the people who place their hands around the candle to prevent it from being blown out.

I hope you can get up from that slum or are encouraged to seek Him first in all things just as i was. As i always tell the many who never ever believe me and think i'm some hardcore i don't know what, -

~ If it were by my own strength, i would have failed;
with him, i am who i am. ~

And always remember:

God bless you and your loved ones!

Things go wrong

1.39am It's interesting that people carry on with their lives after major events, as if it never happened. This may be good or bad for some and depending on circumstances. For myself at this point, i thank God for his blessings which are mountains high and definitely am undeserving of.

That said, today, i only have this to say:

Btw, i don't mean use underhanded techniques, so don't take it literally.

It essentially means, where there's a will, there's a way; the eyes only see what the mind knows. Hence, with determination, limitless possibilities arise!
